Maria Rumenova Maneva and Tanvi Krisha Gunda have just participated in the prestigious Georg Mohr Competition, where they qualified for the Nordic Mathematics Competition.
The Path to the Winner’s Seminar
In November 2024, nearly 20,000 gymnasium students, as well as some elementary school students from across the country, participated in the first round of the Georg Mohr Competition, which is an annual mathematics competition for students interested in the discipline. Of these, 78 students advanced to the second round in January, and among them, 68 winners and wildcards recipients were invited to participate in an exclusive winner’s seminar at the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Knowledge Centre in Sorø at the end of February. Among the selected participants were Maria Rumenova Maneva and Tanvi Krisha Gunda from the International Department at Rygaards School in Hellerup.
The Winner’s Seminar – A Highlight of the Competition
The winner’s seminar lasted for four days and marked both the culmination of the annual Georg Mohr Competition and a recognition of the most talented participants. During the seminar, the winners attended inspiring lectures, engaged in problem-solving activities, and enjoyed both academic and social interaction.
Tanvi and Maria’s Experience of the Winner’s Seminar
Tanvi and Maria share their thoughts on the winner’s seminar: “We had a great experience and learned a lot of new skills, including problem-solving skills that aren’t usually taught at school. We were together with people mostly 1-3 years older than us, and we had the chance to socialise with a lot of the other kids and create good connections with kids from all over Denmark. All the teachers were super helpful, especially to us since we aren’t used to learning in Danish.”
The Path to the International Stage
The winner’s seminar also marked the beginning of a new chapter for the two Rygaards students, as the stay concluded with a test, which resulted in Maria and Tanvi now being among 35 selected mathematical talents who participated in the Nordic Mathematics Competition on March 25th. The results will be crucial for the selection of a team of 6 students for the International Mathematical Olympiad in July, as well as a team of 5 students for the regional competition, Baltic Way, taking place in November.
Rygaards School Recognises Talent and Dedication
At Rygaards, we are incredibly proud of both Maria and Tanvi for their impressive performance in the Georg Mohr Competition. Being selected to participate in the winner’s seminar and subsequently in the Nordic Mathematics Competition is a testament to their dedication and great passion for mathematics, and we look forward to following their continued development. We wish them the best of luck with their future academic endeavors!
